God’s amazing grace has set us free from the penalty and power of sin. By grace we have been saved through faith. By grace we walk the walk of faith. By grace we are set free from every bondage and impediment of the devil. And by grace we serve God through faith, as we depend on his power working so energetically within. I don’t believe grace produces lazy Christians. People will labour hard giving their lives for many different things – for money, for success, for promotion and for fulfilment in life. But the greatest motivation of all is love.
I have seen people labour tirelessly for the Lord over the years. I know that no amount of money in the entire world could produce such a labour of love. Once you have seen the pure, boundless and perfect love of God shown to you in Christ, you can’t help yourself – you just fall in love with him. Nothing that he asks you to do is too small or too big. Grace teaches you to be a selfless worker for Christ – not out of duty or fear, but out of love. The apostle Paul said that he owed everything he was to the grace of God. He also said that it was grace that had led him to live a life of totally dedicated service to God. This was the amazing effect grace had on him.
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 1 Corinthians 15:10
You too can say, “By the grace I am what I am.” Think about all you are and possess in Christ. This is the miracle of amazing grace. But the miracle does not end there! You are who you are, by the grace of God and, like Paul, this grace will continue to produce its effects in your life. God’s grace in never in vain. The more you dwell on his grace, the more you meditate on God’s goodness to you, the more you will find yourself serving him. His passion becomes your passion, his vision for the nations of the world, becomes the vision for your life. You move out in the power of his grace, burning with the message of his love – the love that you know and have experienced personally. This love is contagious.
People are fed up with religion – they want the reality of Christ’s love. And you have it! Take up this high call on your life today. Surrender to the Holy Spirit within you, sit back and watch him work. You will soon find yourself going where you would not ordinarily go, doing and saying what you would not ordinarily do and say. But it will not be you – it will be the Holy Spirit activating and energising you through the grace of God at work in you.
